Environmental Credentials

The success of Norton Park as a model of excellence for the provision of shared premises is recognised throughout the sector for its environmentally friendly design:

  • The Air Handling system frequently provides an air change in every office
  • The lighting system has high frequency fluorescent lights that mirror daylight and reduce flickering
  • The heating system does not continuously produce heat. When an office reaches the set temperature, the radiators will stop producing heat, when the temperature begins to lower, the system will automatically send heat back to the radiators
  • All cleaning agents used in Norton Park are environmentally friendly, and are assessed for additives (perfume etc)
  • Interior decoration materials are natural products to the extent permitted.
  • Heating & Lighting is controlled by a ‘building management system’ which senses and adjusts temperatures and lighting requirements in 15 zones.
  • Ventilation system provides one air change per hour to large spaces, and up to 10 changes per hour for small spaces. System includes heat recovery from exhaust air, and the top floor has the added benefit of recovering heat from the air sucked from the gap between overlapping slates. This method had previously been used in domestic housing but never on such a scale; removes need for traditional air conditioning.
  • Rainwater recovery and retention system thought to be the first of its kind in any office building in Scotland. Rainwater is captured from 40% of the roof, stored within the building and used to flush the toilets below. The rainwater tank is topped up by the mains water system in dry periods. Water is continually sterilised by a UV filter, and all toilets in the building are low flush
